Understanding PTE Score 65
A score of 65 represents a Proficient level of English. It is the "Golden Standard" for postgraduate university admissions and provides 10 points toward Australian Skilled Migration.
What does a Score of 65 mean?
At this level, you can expect to:
- Understand complex, lengthy texts and recognize implicit meaning.
- Express yourself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
- Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic, and professional purposes.
Strategic Priorities to Secure a 65
Moving from a 50 to a 65 requires moving beyond basic templates toward nuanced accuracy and high-level vocabulary.
1. Oral Fluency & Intonation
In Read Aloud and Describe Image, your flow must be natural. Avoid long hesitations and robotic pacing. Focus on "chunking" groups of words together to sound like a native speaker.
2. High-Frequency Vocabulary
To score 65 in Reading, you must master collocations. Understanding which words naturally go together (e.g., "conduct research" vs "do research") is critical for Reading Practice 2 and the Fill in the Blanks sections.
3. Perfecting "Write from Dictation"
This is the most important task for both Listening and Writing scores. In Write from Dictation, every single word counts. Missing one "the" or an "s" can be the difference between a 64 and a 65.
