PTE Reading
The Reading module tests your ability to understand written academic English. Unlike the Speaking section, you are given a single timer for the entire module. Mastering Time Management and Collocations is the key to success here.
1. High-Value Reading Tasks
Focus your study time on the tasks that carry the most weight for your overall score.
- Reading & Writing: Fill in the Blanks: Tests both grammar and context. This is the highest-scoring task.
- Reading: Fill in the Blanks: Focuses strictly on vocabulary and word pairings (collocations).
- Re-order Paragraphs: Tests your understanding of logical flow and text structure.
2. The "Cross-Module" Bonus
Did you know your Reading score is influenced by other sections? Use this PTE Strategy:
- From Speaking: Read Aloud provides nearly 30% of your Reading marks.
- From Writing: Summarize Written Text contributes points to your Reading score.
- From Listening: Highlight Correct Summary and Highlight Incorrect Words also add points here.
3. Reading Practice & Tests

4. Critical Reading Tips
- Watch the Clock: You have roughly 2 minutes per "Fill in the Blanks" question. See our Time Management Guide.
- Identify Nouns First: In Re-order Paragraphs, find the "Independent Sentence" that doesn't start with a pronoun (like He, She, It, This).
- Grammar Cues: Use tense consistency and subject-verb agreement to eliminate wrong answers in blanks.
5. Recommended Resources
