PTE Speaking & Writing | Master Part 1 of the Exam

PTE Speaking & Writing

The Speaking & Writing module is the first section of the PTE Academic. It tests your ability to produce spoken and written English in an academic setting. Because it is highly integrated, your performance here directly impacts your Reading and Listening scores.

1. Speaking: Fluency and Pronunciation

The AI algorithm focuses on your "Oral Fluency" and "Pronunciation" more than the complexity of your ideas.

  • Read Aloud: Focus on natural phrasing and intonation. Practice at Read Aloud.
  • Repeat Sentence: Replicate the speaker's rhythm and stress.
  • Describe Image: Use a structured template to maintain a constant flow. Explore Describe Image Guide.
  • Re-tell Lecture: Note down keywords and use them in a pre-learned sentence structure.

2. Writing: Precision and Format

In the Writing tasks, the computer checks for "Form" (word count) and "Grammar/Spelling" accuracy.

  • Summarize Written Text: You must write exactly one sentence between 5 and 75 words.
  • Essay Writing: Maintain a word count between 200–300 words. Master this at PTE Essay Writing.
  • Consistency: Do not mix British and American English spellings in the same response.

3. Integrated Scoring Breakdown

Many tasks in this section provide marks to other modules. This is a core PTE Strategy:

4. Training and Mock Tests

Success comes from consistent practice using exam-like conditions.

  1. Start with individual Test Exercises for each task.
