PTE Tips & Strategies

Success in the PTE Academic isn't just about English—it's about understanding how the AI scores your performance. Follow these essential tips to optimize your preparation and secure your target score.

1. Speaking: Master the AI Voice Recognition

The computer values oral fluency and pronunciation over complex vocabulary in the speaking module.

  • 1.1 Maintain Flow: Do not hesitate or self-correct. If you make a mistake, keep going.
  • 1.2 Avoid Long Pauses: If you remain silent for more than 3 seconds, the microphone turns off.
  • 1.3 Practice Task Specifics: Use our guides for Read Aloud and Describe Image.

2. Writing: Stick to the Structure

PTE Writing is scored on grammar, spelling, and form. Structure is your best friend here.

  • 2.1 Use Templates: For PTE Essay Writing, use a proven structure to ensure you meet the "form" requirements.
  • 2.2 Check Spelling: Ensure you use either US or UK spelling consistently—do not mix them.
  • 2.3 Punctuation Matters: A missing comma or period can significantly lower your enabling skills score.

3. Reading: Time Management is Key

Unlike other modules, the Reading section often leaves students struggling for time.

  1. Don't spend more than 2 minutes on a single Reading Question Type.
  2. Focus heavily on Fill in the Blanks, as they carry the most marks.
  3. Improve your speed with Reading Practice 1.

4. Listening: Focus on the High-Value Tasks

The Listening section has tasks that contribute marks to your Writing score as well.

  • 4.1 Prioritize Write from Dictation: This is arguably the most important task in the whole test. Practice it at Write from Dictation.
  • 4.2 Close Listening: For Summarize Spoken Text, focus on keywords and phrases rather than full sentences.

5. General Test Day Strategies

  1. Manage Your Time: Learn the specific Time Management rules for each section.
  2. Understand Your Goal: Whether you need Score 65 or Score 79, adjust your effort toward high-weight tasks.
  3. Simulation: Always take a Full Practice Test before the real exam to build stamina.
