IELTS Mixed Tests
Mixed IELTS practice for reading, listening, writing, speaking, vocabulary and grammar.
IELTS preparation should not only train one skill at a time. In the real exam and in real communication, you need to switch between reading, listening, writing, speaking and language accuracy. These mixed tests help you practise different skills in one session.
Mixed Test 1: Reading and Understanding
Read the short passage and answer the questions.
Urban Transport and Cleaner Cities
Many cities are trying to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution by changing how people move around. Instead of building more roads, some city planners now focus on public transport, cycling routes and pedestrian areas. This approach can improve air quality and make city centres more attractive. However, the change is not always popular. Drivers may feel restricted, businesses may worry about access and local governments must invest in reliable alternatives.
The most successful projects usually combine several measures. A city may improve bus services, build safe cycle lanes, reduce parking spaces and introduce lower speed limits. If people have realistic alternatives, they are more willing to leave the car at home. Transport policy is therefore not only an environmental issue. It is also a question of convenience, fairness and long-term planning.
