IELTS band scores range from Band 1 to Band 9. Each band score represents a level of English ability. Your final IELTS score is the average of the four skills: reading, listening, writing and speaking.

How IELTS Band Scores Are Calculated
Your overall IELTS band score is calculated by averaging the four individual scores:

Band 9
Fully fluent English with accurate and natural usage. IELTS Band 9
Band 8
Very fluent English with minor errors and occasional inaccuracies. IELTS Band 8
Band 7
Good English ability with some grammatical and vocabulary mistakes. IELTS Band 7
Band 6
Competent English for study, work and everyday communication. IELTS Band 6
Band 5
Basic communication with noticeable errors and limited vocabulary. IELTS Band 5
Band 4
Limited English ability in familiar situations. IELTS Band 4
Band 3 and below
Very limited communication and major difficulty understanding English.
