IELTS General

The IELTS General Training test is designed for people who want to live, work, or train in an English-speaking country. It measures practical everyday English skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

IELTS General Test Structure

  • Listening – 30 minutes
  • Reading – 60 minutes
  • Writing – 60 minutes
  • Speaking – 11–14 minutes

IELTS General Listening

The Listening test is the same for IELTS Academic and IELTS General. You will hear four recordings and answer 40 questions.
  • Conversation in an everyday context
  • Monologue in a social situation
  • Conversation in an educational or training context
  • Talk on an academic or general topic

IELTS General Reading

The IELTS General Reading test focuses on everyday English, workplace texts, and social situations. It includes three sections with increasing difficulty.

IELTS General Writing

The IELTS General Writing test includes two tasks. You write a letter in Task 1 and an essay in Task 2.

  • Discussion essay
  • Problem solution essay
  • Advantages disadvantages essay
  • At least 250 words
