School English Qualifications
IGCSE, the International Baccalaureate and AP English: English qualifications that students take at school.
These are not stand-alone language tests. They are school subjects with a final exam, taken at international schools and in other school systems around the world. They test reading, writing and analysis of texts, not just language level. Compare them here, then go to the guide for your qualification.

Prepare for Your Qualification
Each qualification has its own guide and training plan.
1IGCSE English
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education is taken at about 16. English as a First Language focuses on reading and writing for native-level students; English as a Second Language tests all four skills for learners.
2International Baccalaureate (IB) English
In the IB Diploma Programme, students take English either as English A, which studies literature and language in depth, or as English B, a language course for learners. Both can be taken at Standard or Higher Level.
3AP English
Advanced Placement courses come from the US College Board. AP English Language and Composition focuses on argument and rhetoric; AP English Literature and Composition on poetry, prose and drama. A good score can count towards a US university course.
+Students at German Schools
At a German school you will not usually take these qualifications. Many students instead add a Cambridge certificate, such as B2 First or C1 Advanced, to show their level for a study place, a stay abroad or a first job.
How to Prepare
School English exams reward understanding and good writing, not memorised answers.
