1. What is the Cambridge DELTA?

The Cambridge DELTA (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is one of the most prestigious, internationally recognized advanced qualifications for English language teachers. Awarded by Cambridge University Press & Assessment and regulated at Ofqual Level 7 (Master's degree equivalent in the UK), DELTA is designed to deepen teachers' theoretical knowledge, linguistic analysis, and practical classroom expertise.

For Experienced Educators: Suitable for teachers with at least one to two years of post-initial qualification (e.g., CELTA/TEFL) teaching experience.
Flexible Modular Structure: Comprises three independent modules that can be taken in any order, over any timeframe.

2. Understand the Three DELTA Modules

Each module focuses on a distinct dimension of professional ELT practice and is assessed independently:

Module 1: Language, Methodology & Resources

Theoretical Foundations:

Format: 2-paper written examination (1.5 hours per paper).
Focus Areas: Language systems and skills, phonology, discourse analysis, methodology evaluation, and testing/assessment terminology.

Module 2: Developing Professional Practice

Classroom Execution & Observation:

Format: Continuous assessment through 4 Language Systems/Skills Assignments (LSAs).
Focus Areas: Academic background essays, detailed lesson planning, observed teaching (including external Cambridge assessment), and post-lesson reflection.

Module 3: Extending Practice / ELT Management

Specialism Assignment:

Format: Extended written assignment (4,500 words).
Focus Areas: Designing a tailored syllabus based on diagnostic testing and needs analysis for a specific specialism (e.g., Business English, Young Learners, EAP, or ELT Management).

3. Prerequisites & Entry Requirements

Because DELTA is a Level 7 qualification, candidates must meet specific professional criteria prior to enrollment:

Teaching Experience Minimum 1–2 years of varied, post-initial qualification ELT teaching experience across multiple learner levels and age groups.
Initial Certification An initial TEFL credential such as Cambridge CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, or equivalent.
Language Proficiency Proficient English language ability equivalent to CEFR C1–C2 level (IELTS 8.0+ or native-equivalent fluency).
