TOEFL iBT Score Breakdown
The TOEFL iBT is scored on a scale of 0 to 120. Each of the four sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing) is scored from 0 to 30.

Section Performance Levels
Your official score report also provides performance indicators for each section:
- Reading: High (24–30), Intermediate (18–23), Low (0–17)
- Listening: High (22–30), Intermediate (17–21), Low (0–16)
- Speaking: Advanced (25–30), High-Intermediate (20–24), Low-Intermediate (16–19), Basic (0–15)
- Writing: Advanced (24–30), High-Intermediate (17–23), Low-Intermediate (1–16)
What do these scores mean?
Most universities in the U.S. and Canada require a total score between 80 and 100 for undergraduate and graduate admission. Highly competitive programs may require 100+.
